If it were me I would do a loopy design in a lime green. I would like to try the Bottom Line.

Oh, Patty! You are a no reply blogger. Hope you come back to see this message. If you were to win the draw.... I have no way of contacting you. But I certainly do appreciate your suggestions for the quilting!

Lorna, how to quilt the quilt is what I struggle with most and is why I have 10-12 ufo's. I love your dotty hexagons.

Monopoly Reduced-Sheen Clear 10,000 Yd.

Paul said...

for each flower, echo the outer hexagon, and for the center hexagon, something like a star or heart. Or each each outer flower, and inner on the outer hexagons, and do something special in the inner hexagon.

I'd like to try the silk thread or king tut.

Gill said...

I'd go for straight lines - maybe in a neutral colour???
I don't know Superior Threads - perhaps some King TUT??

Terry@ a quilting blog said...

What about bubbles for the flower centers and loops for the 'petals'? Either a neutral thread or play with different colors. I'd love to try Superior's Bottom Line. Look forward to seeing this beautiful quilt all finished :)

Debbie said...

I would pop corn quilt it, using Superior Bottom line 623. It's a neutral that blends with everything and my absolute favorite. The pop corn would give you a secondary pattern of flowers.

Patti said...

I can visualize a flower in the centers (like an infinity sign that goes over and over to make the flower) and then echo quilting the petal hexies, making them quite flat. I'd like to try some Masterpiece cotton machine piecing/quilting thread.

Karen said...

I would like to try the King Tut thread.

Dawn said...

I am completely new to quilting and truly have no clue, but it is very pretty! As for the thread I don't know that either but I guess looking at the site the King Tut thread looks nice.

Patty said...

I would like to try King Tut. I have heard it is very good thread.

I would like to try Masterpiece for quilting and piecing.

Mara said...

I like the idea of echo quilting and then a star or flower in the centers. I would like to try the invisible threads, Monopoly or I love Variegated threads.

Jenelle said...

You could quilt petals in each of the outer hexagons of each flower and either stipple or pebble inside the middle. That would really emphasis the flower component of the design. I've always been curious about the Masterpiece threads. I like King Tut quite a lot and usually sew with all-cotton, so it seems like it would be a good thread for me. Thanks for the chance!

Michele T said...

How about swirls??? I've used Superior threads and have been pleased with results.

charlotte said...

This may be time consuming but how about a daisy in each hexagon? The Bottom line intrigues me.

allthingzsewn said...

I think a pale yellow in large zigzags would be pretty. And as a new quilter I would be happy to try what ever you suggest.

Becca said...

I think echoing the flower shape in a much less abstract form would be great for the quilting. Fun flower shapes over each of those hexie flowers.

As for threads, I have enjoyed everything I've tried from Superior. Masterpiece is awesome for piecing and even top-stitching binding down. Magnifico is amazing in the long arm and does a great job both in the embroidery machine and as a top thread for top-stitching applique. The Bottom Line is great for being... well, the bottom thread. I've used it both in my sewing machine and the long arm. I even have a bobbin for the long arm set with the right tension just for this thread. I have some Fantastico, but haven't tried it, yet. I love the color combinations! King Tut is beautiful as a quilting thread and holds up great to the higher speeds of the long arm. I think the only thing I haven't tried is So Fine as a top thread.

You'll find the perfect quilting for your hexies and it will be great!

I really do not know much about thread, but I went to there web site and looked around. I think that I would like to try the King Tut. Thanks so much for the opportunity.

I would like to try masterpiece. I love Superior Threads! I'm very new so I'm still trying to figure out threads. I stink at quilting, but I'm working on it. I love all of your work you get it just right! Not sure how to quilt this one but your geometric patterns rock! Thanks for a chance.

How about a curved line from corner to corner of the centers, then a loop-t-loop on the rest of the flower. I'd love to try something variegated. Wish I could remember the name of the bright cones you just purchased for your last quilt. This quilt is sooooo pretty! I think it will be beautiful no mater what design you quilt it in.

How big are the hexie's? On my Grandmother's Flower Garden (that were 1 inch each side), the Amish lady hand quilted just inside the ring of each color. Think it would be hard to match all the colors of the hexie's, so probably would just go with a plain white. I've thought that if the hexie's were less than 1 inch, I would just tack the center color and then quilt midway around the next color ring. Always curious what others are doing. Have never used Superior Thread. Take care and stay warm. Robert, from northern Iowa. . . .

(See you are just north of Stratford and St Mary's. Had an Aunt that had a B&B in Stratford, but sold it and moved to St. Mary's. She is gone now but need to get up there to visit cousins, there and in Dundas. - small world.)

I have tried King Tut and like and would like to try some OCD monofilament

Paula@TheSassyQuilter said...

The lime green sounds like a great thread for this. I think maybe something different in each flower to make them pop separately??? I have only tried superiors bottom line, I would like to try some of their cotton, 50wt. to compare:)

Susan at TheBoredZombie.com said...

oh. all those choices! It is always the hardest part isnt it?? I like white for thread.

LittleHouseontheDairy said...

I would probably do straight line quilting but echoing the hexagons would be amazing! ( I would love to try king tut)

Carrie P. said...

Here is a neat way to quilt hexagons. Your quilt is modern looking so this design might work.

I think if it were my quilt I would do the quilting in white thread.

I think I would like to try the King Tut quilting threads. thanks for a chance.

Kathy @ Kwilty Pleasures said...

Outline / echo kwilt the hexies..use a white or light gray thread of your choice. Here is a link to a pillow I kwikted.

I have used Superior Fine before but King Tut is great for kwilting!

Jo said...

I have never tried this thread so any type would be welcome

Pamela said...

Your quilt is beautiful! I like some of the other suggestions for quilting - especially the pebbles in the middle and flower loops in the flower part of the hexies. And I also think an all-over spiral or other curvy design would be nice. The hexies will visually hold their own, and a curvy all-over pattern will give your garden a natural organic texture. Thanks so much for sharing! I would love to try Masterpiece or King Tut. I've never used Superior threads, so any would be a treat!

suemac said...

I would love to try some King Tut. Anything flowery I guess.

Cecilia said...

I would like to try Masterpiece and King Tut. I think that echo quilting around the outer ring of the flowers and something like a flower in the center. I love the colors you chose for your quilt.

Joan H. said...

I would like to try Masterpiece for quilting . I think a simple design on the hexie quilt so you concentrate more on the quilt than the quilting.

Margaret said...

I think swirls would be great on this one. As for the thread I would love to try a neutral Masterpiece and I think that would look nice on this quilt

Emily C said...

I would love to try the embroidery threads. I just loves the little rainbow in variegated.

Lee said...

I would love to try the King Tut - for hand quilting. I think loops would look nice on your hexie quilt!

Tamie said...

I'd like to try MasterPiece. Sorry I can't give you quilting suggestions. That is the hardest thing for me to decide.

Hi Lorna, Love your flowers! How about doing something different like a BEE. The one you have on your button looks easy enough. You could make the bee flying line a little loop and then start on his tail work around to the wings, make a loop, sew across the body and back, make another wing, and then back to the tail, then you go off in another direction to a new bee.
Threads? how about variagated in something a little shiny.
There you go. my 10cents.

I would love Masterpiece or King Tut. I saw a Hexagon quilt the other day where they put a "flower" design so to speak sort of a loop to loop in each block. Must have taken forever but was beautiful. I would use a color that stands out whatever you choose. Beautiful job.

Farm Quilter said...

Pebble in the pink centers, swirl in the green centers - match your thread colors to those colors. For the petals of the flowers you could do a feather-petal design with 2 feathers per hexi that would emphasize the flowers. I would use So Fine and match the thread to the flowers - sorry, a bit of changing your threads but if you do all of one color before you change, it's not so bad! I would love to try some of the Glow in the Dark threads! Love Superior Threads also - King Tut, So Fine, Bottom Line are all my go-to choices for quilting!

nicolesender said...

I think I'd use the King Tut thread. I might echo quilt but highlight the center of the flowers in a special way. Such a beautiful quilt!

Stitchin At Home said...

Loopy in a coloured thread perhaps a variegated. I would like to try fantastico.

Mokki said...

I agree with most of these comments. Accentuating the flower shapes would be nice. Bubbles in the centres and something that starts at the base of the petals and radiates to the outer edges like a feather design or just some gently curving lines. Yellow centres and off-white petals maybe? As for threads, I've never tried superior threads so I have no idea what type to try!

Anita said...

I would like to try the King Tut thread.

Beth said...

Picking the quilting design is the hardest for me. I would not do straight lines. I love Superior Threads especially the So Fine. I would love to try the King Tut.

Thanks!

Wendy said...

how about a kind of spiral quilting, but with hexagons?

I'd like to try the Bottom Line as I've heard good things about it.

Jayne said...

Lorna this hexagon quilt is awesome! What a bright and happy color combination! I haven't a clue how to quilt hexies, but I would go with white thread. Maybe some spirals or circles would be nice!
Thanks for the giveaway! I know you love Superior Thread and I would love to give it a try! Maybe King Tut #920 Sands Of Time 2,000 Yds....just for fun!

Vicki in MN said...

If it were my quilt I would do a flower design in a random pattern on just some of the flowers and then choose another design for the rest of the flowers. I think a lighter shade of yellow would work. I love Sew Fine or is it SoFine-I always forget!! I have not had good luck with Bottom line in my longarm for some reason.

Sue Daurio said...

How to quilt the quilt, that is the question huh? I usually have to have a stare down with my quilts before I decide!! I think a nice flower motif would be wonderful. Making the center a smaller circle in the center of the flower then petals for each one. Hmmm that may be too predictable. I do like the idea of the lime green thread. I've heard more than once that works wonderfully. And if you use so fine thread it just melts right into that quilt!

Texas Quilting Gal said...

I would echo quilt each larger hexi flower and maybe a swirl in the center. I've never tried superior thread before so I'd love to try it. The quilting cotton, king tut or masterpiece. Thanks! Mrscwatson81@hotmail.com

I always wanted to try King Tut thread...Thanks for the chance to win some thread :)

Quilting patterns - my biggest struggle. I'm sure whatever you do will look fantastic! I'd like to try the Fusible Web - thanks for the chance!

Sarah said...

I've tried quite a few...I love the Bottom Line for my bobbin thread, and I really recommend it. A bobbin lasts forever and it's lint free

Rachel said...

I might like to try King Tut. Thanks for the chance to win. You've got so many neat recommendations for quilting, good luck! I'm sure it will look great whatever you choose.

How about some free motioned flowers to offset the perfection of the hexies?

Anonymous said...

I would like to try Masterpiece thread. You could outline stitch the hexagons and then do a little star or flower in the centers.

Tiffany said...

I wouldn't mind trying Superior's invisible thread. :)

Jacqui S. said...

I would like to try Superior's Masterpiece. Thank you for asking, and I think your quilt is gorgeous, though I don't know enough to say which colour you could use.

Lin's Quilts said...

Someone way earlier suggested a flower in the hexagons, like an infinity sign. That's what I "saw" right away too.

I haven't tried Masterpiece, but I love every other thread from Superior I've tried.

I love your quilt! I would follow the hexagon pattern with a black thread to quilt it. Quilting is great cause there is infinite options and no right or wrong!

Celtic Thistle said...

Lovely quilt, great photo too! Think some sort of flower quilting would be lovely.

I would love to have a go at invisible applique so would like to try out the MonoPoly thread, it sounds ideal :)

Debbie said...

I think echo quilting. And I would love to try any but probably king tut is the one I have heard the most about

Connie Kresin Campbell said...

Beautiful quilt and it would be neat stitched in the ditch! I would love to try King Tut, I know I love Sew Fine and Bottomline already! Thanks for sharing.

I like the idea of flower petals in the outer and pebbles in the center. I think I'd do it randomly unless you want a really densely quilted quilt. I've used kig tut and am presently using bottom line for appliqué so I'd like to maybe try so fine or maybe magnifico.

claudia said...

I like the idea of a daisy type flower over each of the hexagon flowers. (Of course, that's probably easy for me to say, because I am not doing the quilting. I think a pastel-ish variegated thread would work well.
Superior's Bottom Line. I have not had the pleasure of using Superior, but I would love to try it! Thanks for the opportunity!!!

I like KIng Tut, haven't tried Bottom LIne but I'm sure it is good too!
Can't wait to see how you quilt it.
